Nigerian National Arrested in Delhi for Attempted Murder and Rioting

Delhi Police have arrested a 27-year-old Nigerian national, Augustine Ohe Chukwu, who was wanted for a 2021 attempted murder and rioting case in Dwarka. According to an official statement on Tuesday, Chukwu had been at large for the past four years after being released on bail.
The incident on September 26, 2021, saw a mob of 50 to 60 Nigerian nationals gathering at Tarak Hospital in Dwarka More following the death of another Nigerian man. The mob later proceeded to Mohan Garden police station, vandalizing property and attacking police personnel with bricks, rods, and sticks. The police fired into the air to disperse the rioters, resulting in injuries to three officers.
Chukwu was apprehended as part of a police crackdown on foreign nationals involved in illegal activities. He was arrested under Section 35(1)(c) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for arrest without warrant and has been sent to judicial custody. Authorities are continuing investigations to trace other absconding suspects in the case.
