A group of farmers, including more than 100 individuals, have been booked by police following a protest that stopped construction at an industrial model township in Haryana. The unrest stems from disputes over compensation for land acquired in 2010.
The demonstration took place at IMT Rojka Meo, where farmers from nine villages claim they have not received appropriate compensation for 1,600 acres of land. Attempts by the police to maintain peace were unsuccessful as tensions flared, with an elderly woman reportedly falling unconscious during the altercation.
Despite efforts from Haryana State Industrial & Infrastructure Development Corporation to continue work, protesters surrounded machinery, leading to multiple detentions. An FIR was later filed against 107 individuals for obstructing government operations, highlighting ongoing discontent over land rights and compensation.
