A tense standoff erupted at the Four Seasons Hotel in Atlanta when a 70-year-old man opened fire with various weapons, police reported.
According to Atlanta Chief of Police Darin Schierbaum, the suspect discharged at least 15 gunshots from his apartment using a handgun, shotgun, and rifle. In response, officers fired back. Both the suspect and an officer were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, although it's unclear if gunshots caused the injuries.
The incident began as a mental health emergency call involving a hotel employee altercation. The suspect, who also wielded multiple knives, eventually surrendered to the SWAT team. Authorities are treating the case as aggravated assault, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is reviewing police actions.
