Tragedy Strikes Kupiansk Amid Renewed Tensions
A Russian attack on Kupiansk in northeastern Ukraine resulted in the death of a woman and injuries to 10 others. Initial reports from Governor Oleh Syniehubov were corrected regarding the death toll. Moscow's forces are slowly advancing towards Kupiansk, which has a history of occupation and liberation.
A Russian strike on the frontline town of Kupiansk in northeastern Ukraine claimed the life of a woman and left 10 others injured, regional authorities reported on Thursday.
The governor, Oleh Syniehubov, revised initial reports of the casualties after initially stating two had died and three were injured. The deceased woman had been in a serious condition when admitted to the hospital, prosecutors confirmed.
Syniehubov noted that the attack took place near a shop and the town market, damaging a two-storey retail building, several kiosks, and the windows of nearby homes. After initially occupying Kupiansk in early 2022, Russian forces were expelled by a Ukrainian counter-offensive last September. However, they are now closing in again on the town's northern outskirts.
