A fire erupted at a railway extension worksite in Thootukudi, Tamil Nadu, on Thursday. Rapid response by firefighting teams has helped to bring the situation under control, with operations actively ongoing.
Officials have confirmed that there were no casualties reported as a result of the blaze. The cause of the fire is still under investigation and further details are awaited.
In a similar incident in August, two people were severely injured when firecrackers, stored illegally in a cowshed near Sivakasi in the Virudhunagar district, exploded. Authorities have registered a case and an investigation is ongoing, according to the Sivakasi fire and rescue department.
