In a decisive move, Bangladesh's interim government has banned the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of the Awami League, under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
The administration accused the BCL of violent activities that threatened public safety, such as murder and harassment over the past 15 years. Even after the Awami League's fall, BCL reportedly continued anti-state actions.
This ban follows violent protests and demands by movements against discrimination, leading to a political crisis and calls for constitutional changes.
