In a gripping testament to courage, Captain Reena Varughese, a helicopter pilot, made a daring rescue amidst a fierce encounter between security forces and Naxalites in Gadchiroli district, Maharashtra. Risking her own safety, she evacuated a wounded commando under fire three days ago.
The dramatic rescue unfolded during a joint operation by local police and the CRPF on October 21, which neutralized five Naxalites, infamous for their Rs 38 lakh bounty. Captain Varughese's quick response and nerve in managing an SOS call were critical in saving the life of Kumod Atram, a member of the C-60 unit, stated a police officer.
Facing adverse terrain and the threat of enemy fire, Captain Varughese orchestrated a precarious landing and coordinated with ground forces to evacuate Atram to a hospital in Nagpur. Her valor contributed significantly to the success of the anti-Naxal operation, police confirmed.
