The Congress in Madhya Pradesh will launch a 'Beti Bachao' campaign starting on Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary, aimed at exposing the state government's alleged failure in curbing crimes against women. Party leaders claim that incidents of rape and crime have surged under the BJP's 18-year rule.
Jitu Patwari, president of the MP Congress unit, highlighted that over 4.10 lakh women have fallen victim to crimes during this period. According to an NCRB report, more than 65,000 rape cases have been registered since 2004, with many more unreported.
The fortnight-long campaign will include a 'speak-up' event, torch processions, and candle marches. Congress workers will meet victims' families, extend support, and submit a memorandum to the state government, calling for action.
