On Tuesday, the U.N. peacekeeping force reported that the Israeli army had notified it about plans to carry out limited ground incursions into Lebanon.
Despite the escalating situation, UNIFIL stated that its peacekeeping troops remain in their positions and called on all involved parties to avoid further provocative actions.
UNIFIL emphasized that any Israeli incursion into Lebanon would violate Lebanese sovereignty and the territorial stipulations of U.N. Security Council resolution 1701, which ended the 2006 war between Hezbollah and Israel.
