U.S. Pushes for Middle East De-escalation, Seeks Peace

The United States is pushing for a reduction in violence in the Middle East, according to a statement from U.S. envoy to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield on Monday.

"We want to find a path to peace, so that Palestinians and Israelis have safety and Lebanese and Israelis living on the northern border find security and safety as well," said Thomas-Greenfield in a briefing with reporters.

When asked about potential Israeli military actions in Lebanon, Thomas-Greenfield declined to comment on the specifics of U.S.-Israel discussions but confirmed that the two countries remain in close contact.
