Arvind Kejriwal has alleged that the BJP has wrongfully overpowered the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and stolen the mandate. His remarks came on Friday after the saffron party secured the last vacant seat of the civic body's standing committee.

The election saw the ruling AAP and Congress councillors boycotting the polls, resulting in the BJP now holding 10 seats in the panel compared to AAP's eight. Kejriwal, addressing the Delhi Assembly, highlighted that according to regulations, only the mayor can convene an MCD House meeting, but the lieutenant governor altered this by directing an additional commissioner to do so.

Kejriwal criticized this move and accused the BJP of resorting to 'hooliganism' in the election process. He pointed out that standard protocol requires a 72-hour notice to be sent to every councillor before the meeting, which was not adhered to in this case. During the election, all 115 BJP councillors voted for Sunder Singh, while AAP's Nirmala Kumari did not secure any votes.
