According to police reports, Shinde grabbed a pistol inside a police van and threatened officers, leading Inspector Sanjay Shinde to fire in self-defense.
Detailed in the First Information Report (FIR), the incident occurred while Shinde was being transported for further investigation. As tensions escalated inside the van, Shinde allegedly seized the weapon, prompting a struggle that resulted in Inspector Shinde firing a fatal shot.
Shinde's family contests this version of events, accusing the police of staging the encounter. They have approached the Bombay High Court, demanding an independent Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the incident thoroughly.
