Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva proposed a six-point plan to mediate between Russia and Ukraine, which has been rejected by Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskiy. Lula's initiative seeks support from the Global South at a U.N. meeting. Lula also called for U.N. reforms to better represent global interests.
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has proposed a six-point plan aimed at mediating the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy immediately dismissed the proposal, labeling it as 'destructive.'
In a speech at the United Nations General Assembly, Lula did not disclose details of the plan but revealed that his foreign policy adviser, Celso Amorim, will seek support from 20 countries during a meeting in New York. Friday's meeting will involve representatives from the Global South, including nations like Colombia, Egypt, and Indonesia, while European governments, staunch supporters of Ukraine, will not be present.
Lula also highlighted the escalating conflict in Gaza and called for a ceasefire. Furthermore, the Brazilian leader reiterated his call for U.N. reform, urging for an overhaul to better represent global interests and address issues like poverty and climate change.
