External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Riyadh on Monday, underscoring India’s active role in global diplomacy. The meeting occurred days after President Vladimir Putin acknowledged India’s efforts to mediate the ongoing Ukraine conflict during a speech at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok.
On Thursday, Putin named India among the key countries engaged in dialogue over Ukraine, emphasizing the constructive relations between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russia. The Kremlin highlighted Modi’s potential to leverage his communication with global leaders to facilitate conflict resolution.
Jaishankar’s visit to Riyadh is part of a broader diplomatic mission that will also take him to Germany and Switzerland. In Germany, he will conduct bilateral meetings to discuss the future of India-Germany relations. The final leg of his tour will see him in Geneva, engaging in further diplomatic consultations.
