In a shocking incident, a 38-year-old man named Sumit Kumar Shukla was arrested in Gyanpur for allegedly causing his wife's miscarriage by violently kicking her in the stomach, the police confirmed on Sunday.
The arrest followed a complaint lodged by the victim, 32-year-old Monika Shukla, at the Gyanpur Police Station on September 2. According to authorities, Monika has accused her husband of persistent domestic abuse and unnatural offenses ever since their marriage in 2014.
The police have registered the case under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including causing miscarriage without the woman's consent, unnatural offenses, and criminal intimidation, as well as the Dowry Prohibition Act. Gyanpur SHO Arun Dubey revealed that this wasn't the first instance of such violence, citing a previous incident earlier in the year when the same actions led to another miscarriage.
