The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday sought the registration of a case against senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh for allegedly using an objectionable term against VD Sharma, the ruling party's Madhya Pradesh unit chief.
A delegation, led by Bhopal BJP chief Sumit Pachauri, approached local crime branch officials seeking an FIR against Singh for his alleged use of the term ''napunsakta'' (impotent or lacking masculinity).
Pachauri claimed that Singh deliberately used the term to tarnish Sharma's image and provoke BJP cadres to disturb law and order during the ongoing Ganeshotsav festival. He cited sections 356, 356 (1), and 352 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita as grounds for the case.
During a press conference on Saturday, Singh expressed disappointment at Sharma's alleged inaction despite calling him an associate of terrorists. Sharma countered by accusing Singh of supporting terrorists and using appeasement politics to deprive Scheduled Castes and Tribes of their rights.
In a media release, Sharma stated that Singh's language was unacceptable and challenged Singh's masculinity, promising not to resort to shallow and lowly words.
