Russia's Missile Onslaught on Kyiv Sparks Fires, Injures Civilians
Russia launched a missile attack on Kyiv, injuring at least two people and sparking fires. Ukraine's air defense intercepted most of the missiles, while Poland activated aircraft for safety. Key infrastructure was damaged, and emergency services were deployed to multiple districts in Kyiv.
Early Monday, Russia launched a barrage of missiles at Kyiv, Ukraine's capital, resulting in injuries and widespread damage, officials confirmed. At least two individuals were hurt, and fires broke out as debris from intercepted missiles fell across the city.
According to Kyiv's military administration on Telegram, Ukraine's air defense units successfully intercepted more than 10 cruise and nearly 10 ballistic missiles. Despite air raid alerts lasting nearly two hours, the skies were declared clear by 0330 GMT. In response, NATO member Poland mobilized aircraft to safeguard its airspace.
The attack caused significant damage, including to a boiler house at a Kyiv water plant and the entrance to a metro station used as a bomb shelter. Vehicles and buildings in various districts were set ablaze. The strike follows a major offensive a week earlier, which Kyiv described as the largest yet in the ongoing conflict. Russia, however, denies targeting civilians in the war.
