Global leaders Malaysia Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and New Zealand Prime Minister Chris Luxon have jointly urged an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza conflict and called for a two-state solution between Israel and Palestine.
At a joint press conference, Luxon stated, "We both are very united in calling for an immediate ceasefire, getting the parties around the negotiating table and finding a two-state solution." Anwar expressed concerns about the lack of commitment from influential nations, particularly the United States, who could potentially leverage their power to end the conflict. "The only hope is to engage the United States to take a stronger stance," Anwar emphasized.
Malaysia, a Muslim-majority country, has consistently supported the Palestinian cause and advocated a two-state solution. While Anwar maintains positive relations with the political leadership of Hamas, he clarified his non-involvement in its military activities. Luxon, on a three-day visit to Malaysia, also announced plans for enhanced defense cooperation, including the deployment of a P8 Poseidon aircraft for a joint exercise in northern Penang.
