Assam to Enforce Clause 6 Recommendations to Safeguard Indigenous Culture

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Saturday that the state will implement 52 recommendations from the Justice Biplab Sarma committee on Clause 6 of the Assam Accord. The move aims to safeguard the interests of the indigenous population.
Sarma stated that these recommendations would be implemented by April 15. Clause 6 of the Assam Accord stipulates that constitutional, legislative, and administrative measures will be adopted to protect the Assamese people's cultural, social, and linguistic identity.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the panel's recommendations are divided into three categories: 52 that can be actioned by the state, five requiring joint efforts with the central government, and the remaining falling under central jurisdiction. Sarma reassured that consultations with various stakeholders would ensure timely implementation.
