U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin stressed that no single capability could decisively change the course of the Ukraine war, despite President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's request for long-range weapons to strike Russia. Speaking at a regular meeting of Ukraine's allies at Ramstein Air Base in Germany, Austin emphasized continuous support to Ukraine.
Austin announced another $250 million in U.S. security assistance, but dismissed the notion that deep strikes inside Russia with Western weapons would be a game-changer. He also highlighted Ukraine's own capabilities, including drones, to hit Russian targets.
Germany and Canada pledged additional military resources, while Zelenskiy noted significant Ukrainian advances in Russia's Kursk region. The talks come ahead of a pivotal U.S. election that could impact Ukraine's war effort, with varying positions from the Democratic and Republican candidates.
