Central American Bank Sues Former President for Extortion and Misconduct
The Central American Bank for Economic Integration has filed a lawsuit against its former president, Dante Mossi, accusing him of extortion and abuse of power. The bank's claims include violations of racketeering laws and breach of fiduciary duty. Mossi has denied the accusations, calling them meritless.
The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) has initiated a lawsuit against its former president, Dante Mossi, in a U.S. district court on charges of attempted extortion and abusing his position.
Honduras-based CABEI's allegations against Mossi, who helmed the organization between 2018 and 2023, include racketeering violations, fiduciary breaches, market manipulation, and contract violations. The bank's decision not to renew Mossi's tenure last year reportedly stemmed from concerns over his leadership and character.
In response, Mossi expressed surprise and dismissed the lawsuit as baseless. He pointed to a 2023 investigation by the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project, which revealed that during his tenure, CABEI-funded projects were marred by corruption and bribe allegations. Mossi has counter-sued, seeking $3 million in damages and legal fees, claiming the bank has not paid him $6,000 owed.
