BJP MLA Nitesh Rane has once again found himself in legal trouble. The police in Maharashtra's Beed district have registered a case against him for allegedly targeting Muslims during his recent speeches, according to an official statement on Thursday.
Among the multiple FIRs filed, the latest case comes after more than 300 Muslim community members staged a protest outside Parli city police station, demanding immediate action. Rane's controversial speeches were delivered on September 1 in support of Hindu seer Mahant Ramgiri Maharaj, who had made derogatory remarks about Islam and Prophet Muhammad.
Rane's warning of repercussions if anything happened to Maharaj has added to the tension. The 'Zero FIR' registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita reflects the seriousness of the matter, which has now been transferred to Topkhana police station for further investigation.
