Officers noticed a person carrying a "long gun" around 9 a.m. in the Karolinenplatz area near downtown Munich. An exchange of shots followed, leaving the suspect seriously wounded, but no other individuals were hurt, according to police spokesperson Andreas Franken. The incident coincided with the 52nd anniversary of the 1972 Munich Olympics attack.
Police presence was increased throughout Germany's third-largest city as a precaution, but authorities stated there was no evidence of additional suspects or other threats. The suspect's identity and details about the firearm remain undisclosed. Both the Israeli Consulate and the nearby museum confirmed their staff were unharmed.
