In a harrowing attack, at least 100 villagers were killed in northeastern Nigeria when suspected Boko Haram extremists targeted a market, homes, and worshippers, residents revealed on Wednesday.
Over 50 militants on motorcycles stormed the Tarmuwa council area of Yobe state on Sunday evening, indiscriminately shooting and setting buildings ablaze, Yobe police spokesperson Dungus Abdulkarim confirmed.
The Boko Haram faction responsible for the attack has been waging an insurgency since 2009, aiming to impose a radical interpretation of Islamic law in the region, resulting in over 35,000 deaths and displacing more than 2 million people.
