A former top Polish official, Michal K., who worked closely with ex-prime minister Mateusz Morawiecki, was detained in London on Monday. Polish prosecutors are seeking his swift extradition to Poland, where he faces accusations of participating in an organised criminal group and neglecting his public duties for financial gain.

Polish law prohibits the publication of the full name of individuals accused in criminal proceedings. Michal K., held under an international arrest warrant, previously led Poland's Strategic Reserves Agency. 'A decision must be taken quickly on his temporary arrest for the purpose of these extradition proceedings,' said National Public Prosecutor's Office spokeswoman Anna Adamiak.

The arrest aligns with the current pro-European administration's efforts to hold accountable officials from the previous nationalist Law and Justice (PiS) government for alleged wrongdoings. While PiS condemned the detention as a political maneuver, efforts to address past corrupt practices continue unabated.
