The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has taken a proactive step to address the homeless crisis in the city by forming a team of young advocates tasked with gathering crucial data on homeless individuals residing on the streets.
The move came after the bench, comprising Justice Rajan Rai and Justice OP Shukla, heard a PIL filed by local advocate Jyoti Rajput. The court expressed its frustration with the government's delays in providing the necessary data, citing the extensive nature of the task as the reason for the delay.
With the next hearing scheduled for September 30, the court expects the government departments to act on the data collected by the advocates, who will work in tandem with the petitioner to locate homeless residents. A compliance report is to be submitted at the next hearing.
