A vegetable vendor was apprehended on allegations of molesting a 24-year-old woman in Latur city, Maharashtra, police reported on Friday.
According to the authorities, the incident occurred on Thursday as the woman was purchasing vegetables from the accused. Enraged by his inappropriate behavior, she slapped him and subsequently filed a complaint at the Gandhi Chowk police station with her family members, leading to his arrest. The accused has been identified as 25-year-old Azim Kazi.
Following the incident, the Mahatma Phule Vegetable Market was shut down on Friday after some Hindu organizations called for a 'bandh'. The Latur city unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and other groups demanded stringent action against the accused during a press conference on Thursday evening.
