A court in Thane district has refused the pre-arrest bail plea of Shiv Sena leader Waman Mhatre, who faces charges of abusing a female journalist.
The reporter was covering a protest related to a sexual assault case in Badlapur town when the alleged incident occurred. Mhatre reportedly made objectionable comments, leading to a police complaint and subsequent FIR.
Mhatre, a former president of the Badlapur civic body, denies the allegations. Additional Public Prosecutor Kadambini Khandagale contested the bail plea, and Additional Sessions Judge MA Mote at the Kalyan court rejected the application after hearing arguments from both sides.
