A village revenue official, known locally as a 'talathi', was tragically murdered in Hingoli district of central Maharashtra on Wednesday afternoon, police officials reported.

The assailant, identified as a resident of Bori Sawant village, attacked Santosh Pawar (40) by throwing chili powder in his eyes and subsequently stabbed him in his office at Adgaon Ranjebuva village, according to a senior police official.

Pawar was quickly transported to a government hospital in Parbhani district, where he was declared dead. Superintendent of Police Shrikrishna Kokate confirmed that the suspect has been detained and has confessed to the crime. Pawar managed revenue affairs for both Bori Sawant and Adgaon Ranjebuwa villages in Vasmat taluka.
