Two persons, including a woman, were killed and nine others injured when suspected militants launched a gun-and-bomb attack in Manipur's Imphal West district on Sunday, police said.
According to police, militants fired indiscriminately from hilltop positions towards the low-lying valley areas of Koutruk and neighboring Kadangband, resulting in casualties and damage to several houses due to heavy shelling.
The assault led to panic, with residents fleeing for safety. The deceased were identified as 31-year-old Ngangbam Surbala Devi and an unidentified individual. Security forces have been deployed, and the state government condemned the attack, viewing it as an attempt to derail peace efforts.
