A group of Village Defence Guards opened fire after observing suspicious movement in a village in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said Tuesday. The guards noticed two unidentified individuals near the house of a political activist at Meira-Nagrota, located eight kilometers from Rajouri district headquarters, late Monday night, the officials stated.
Security forces subsequently cordoned off the village and initiated a search, but found no trace of the suspects. The search operation was expanded to adjoining villages this morning and was ongoing at the time of reporting, the officials confirmed.
