Nine Naxalites, including six women, were killed in a fierce encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh's Bastar region on Tuesday, according to a high-ranking police official. The operation is the latest in a series of offensives against Maoists that have accelerated following last year's change in government.

The gunfight erupted at around 10:30 AM in the forests along the Dantewada and Bijapur districts' border. A joint team of security forces had launched an anti-Naxal operation based on intelligence about the presence of Maoist cadres. The operation included personnel from the state police's District Reserve Guard (DRG), Bastar Fighters, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai lauded the security forces for their recent success and reiterated his government's resolve to eliminate Left-wing extremism in the state by March 2026. The operation resulted in the recovery of a cache of weapons and Maoist-related materials. Since the start of the year, 153 Naxalites have been killed, 669 arrested, and 656 have surrendered in the Bastar division.
