A brief gunfight erupted Tuesday evening between security forces and terrorists at a village in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, according to security officials.

The exchange of fire started around 7.30 pm when police and Rashtriya Rifles personnel moved to lower Karyote village of Thanamandi after receiving information about suspicious movements, the officials said.

The terrorists fired a few shots upon noticing the search parties. They then took advantage of the darkness to flee, prompting retaliatory fire from the security forces. No injuries were reported in the brief encounter.

Reinforcements were quickly rushed to the area, and a massive search operation is now underway to track down the terrorists.

In a separate incident, police conducted a thorough search operation in the Bani area of Kathua district following reports of suspicious activity overnight. The area was searched without incident, and no suspected individuals were found.
