For the third day running, protests have flared up across Rajasthan in response to the government's abolishment of nine newly-created districts. Demonstrators in Neem Ka Thana and Anupgarh have resorted to hunger strikes and announced indefinite shutdowns, demanding reinstatement.
The state government, led by Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, decided to dissolve nine of the 17 districts established by the previous Congress administration, claiming they lacked practicality and public interest. Consequently, three divisions—Pali, Banswara, and Sikar—were also dissolved.
Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot criticized the move, labeling it 'unfortunate,' and pointed out that smaller states like Madhya Pradesh have more districts than Rajasthan. Local leaders argue the decision stifles regional development and pledge to continue their protests.
