On Monday, shopkeepers in Bhilwara, Rajasthan, closed their stores amidst rising communal tensions following the discovery of a chopped portion of a cow's tail near a temple, according to police reports.

The police resorted to lathi charges to disperse a crowd that pelted them with stones. Additional forces were called in to prevent further violence.

Eight suspects have been detained in connection with the incident that occurred on Sunday, as stated by SP Bhilwara Rajan Dushyant.

He further noted that some individuals reported seeing the cow's tail near the temple, and upon arrival, the police found both the tail and the cow, which was taken to a veterinary hospital for treatment.

On the occasion of Janmashtami on Monday, a large demonstration took place at Parshuram Circle, demanding the arrest of those responsible for the incident.

The protesters marched towards the Collectorate, urging traders to close their shops, and threw stones at the police, prompting a lathi charge by the authorities.

Eight people have been detained and are currently being interrogated. The situation is described as under control, with additional police forces deployed to maintain law and order, as per the SP.

Rajpal Singh, Sub Inspector of Kotwali police station, mentioned that 18 individuals were also arrested for disturbing peace and order during the protest.
