BJP MP Saumitra Khan from Bishnupur announced on Thursday that a delegation of concerned citizens will approach the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) chairperson to present a representation about the events of August 27 and 28, which they claim are blatant violations of human rights.

Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar held a protest on Wednesday during the 12-hour 'Bengal Bandh' called by the BJP. Majumdar also addressed a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, accusing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of inciting violence, labeling it as an endorsement of revenge politics from the state's highest office.

The '12 hour Bengal Bandh' was called after Kolkata police employed tear gas, water cannons, and lathi charges against protestors participating in the 'Nabnna Abhiyaan' Rally. The rally started from College Square amid heightened security and saw protestors converge in the Santragachi area in Howrah.

Violence erupted in Kolkata on August 27 with security personnel using tear gas, water cannons, and lathi charges to disperse protestors on the Howrah Bridge. The unrest stemmed from national outrage over the rape and murder of a female trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. The case has prompted numerous rallies across various states.
