The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) on Monday presented a memorandum to Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, urging immediate action by the state government against organizations issuing threats to the Muslim community in Upper Assam.
Upper Assam, comprising nine districts, has recently witnessed several organizations demanding the 'Miyas'—Bengali-speaking Muslims—leave the area to safeguard the indigenous culture. AIUDF has requested the state government to condemn such stands and ensure the safety and rights of all communities.
Highlighting a concerning incident in Sivasagar where the Marwari community publicly apologized for an alleged assault by one of its members, the AIUDF emphasized the need for urgent action to prevent escalations and uphold communal harmony, suggesting legal proceedings and increased security measures.
