CBI sleuths commenced questioning former RG Kar Medical College principal Sandip Ghosh and ex-medical superintendent Sanjay Vashisth on Monday. The interrogation is linked to the ongoing investigation into alleged financial irregularities within the institution, according to a CBI officer.

Ghosh arrived at the central agency's Salt Lake office on Monday morning with files and documents, following a search of his Beliaghata residence. Similarly, Vashisth appeared at Nizam Palace after a raid on his house. A forensic medicine department professor was also summoned for questioning at the same office.

"After yesterday's search operations, we have several questions for them," the officer told PTI. The CBI had conducted simultaneous searches at the premises of Ghosh, Vashisth, and 13 others in and around Kolkata. The anti-corruption unit also searched the homes and offices of suppliers of materials for patient care management.

The probe follows a complaint by Akhtar Ali, former deputy superintendent of RGKMCH, alleging that Ghosh issued unauthorized tenders for construction projects without proper permissions. Initial investigations revealed three traders received these ''illegal'' tenders.

The investigation also covers the alleged rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee woman doctor, which led to nationwide protests. A Kolkata Police civic volunteer has been arrested in connection with the crime. Following a directive from the Calcutta High Court, the CBI registered cases related to the killing and the financial irregularities.
