Man Arrested for Attempted Synagogue Arson in Southern France
French police have arrested a man suspected of attempting to set a synagogue on fire in La Grande-Motte. The suspect, a 33-year-old Algerian, also set fire to several cars. The anti-terrorism prosecutor's office is investigating the antisemitic attack, which narrowly averted a significant tragedy.
French authorities have detained a man believed to be responsible for an attempted arson at a synagogue in La Grande-Motte, located in southern France, as confirmed by Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin.
Prime Minister Gabriel Attal disclosed that around 200 police officers had been involved in the search for the suspect, who had set fire to multiple entry doors of the synagogue as well as several nearby vehicles.
Police sources have revealed that the suspect, identified as a 33-year-old Algerian, was arrested in Nimes and an anti-terrorism investigation has been initiated to explore the motives behind this antisemitic attack.
