Leader of the Opposition, Naveen Patnaik, on Friday criticized the BJP government for not including all women of Odisha under the 'Subhadra Yojana' as part of its election guarantees.
Earlier, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi had announced the standard operating procedure (SOP) for the Yojana. The scheme, which promises financial assistance of Rs 10,000 annually in two instalments, targets over one crore women in the state.
Hours later, Patnaik questioned the BJP's commitment in an X post, pointing out that the promised Rs 50,000 per woman during elections had been reduced to just Rs 5,000. According to government data, only 70 lakh women will benefit from the scheme, a significant drop from the initially expected 2.25 crore, Patnaik said.
