The body of a 38-year-old Dalit woman was discovered in a village in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district on Friday, police reported.
According to a police complaint filed by her family, the woman went missing while collecting grass for livestock. Concerned family and villagers found her semi-naked body and informed the authorities, Superintendent of Police Ramsevak confirmed. 'The body has been preserved for postmortem. We have initiated a probe. The postmortem report will confirm the cause of death,' he stated.
Her family alleges she was strangled to death, leading villagers to block a road in protest, demanding swift action. The protest ended after authorities assured that the perpetrator would be arrested promptly.
