Assam Director General of Police G P Singh has urged all stakeholders to cooperate in maintaining law and order in the state. This comes after Marwari leaders in Sivasagar district issued a public apology for the assault of a teenage girl by a community member.

In a letter to police officials across the state, Singh highlighted recent criminal acts involving different community members and stressed the need for police to act in strict accordance with the law. He called for regular meetings between police, citizen committees, and district administration to foster communal amity.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma advised against politicizing the apology, emphasizing that the assault on the teenage girl was intolerable. Singh reiterated the Assam Police's commitment to impartial law enforcement and warned against any failures to uphold legal standards.
