The Congress on Thursday amplified its demand for a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) probe into recent accusations by US-based short-seller Hindenburg Research concerning Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch and the Adani Group.

Speaking at a press conference, All India Mahila Congress president and party spokesperson Alka Lamba queried why SEBI chairperson Buch had not resigned after a Hindenburg report released nearly two weeks ago accused her of a conflict of interest.

The Congress stressed that only a JPC could reveal the full extent of the alleged scam involving stock manipulation and regulatory conflicts. Both SEBI and the Adani Group have dismissed the allegations as baseless and malicious.
