The Supreme Court on Thursday altered the requirement for activist Teesta Setalvad to provide a Rs 10 lakh solvent surety as a condition for her travel to Malaysia. Instead, she can now furnish a cash surety or a fixed deposit receipt of the same amount.
The court had previously permitted Setalvad to attend a conference in Selangor, Malaysia, from August 31 to September 10. She is required to file an undertaking promising her return and to face trial in India as scheduled.
The bench, led by Justice B R Gavai, noted no objections from the Gujarat government to this modification, highlighting sufficient conditions to ensure Setalvad's return and compliance with legal proceedings.
