In a significant development, Ghaziabad Police on Thursday apprehended Dr. Abdur Rahman for allegedly deceiving a fellow doctor, Dr. Harsha Sarangi, into marrying him by falsely adopting Hinduism.

The couple, who tied the knot in 2018 and have a child together, are now at the center of allegations under Uttar Pradesh's Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021. According to the complaint filed by Sarangi's mother, Rahman feigned his conversion to Hinduism to facilitate the marriage.

Officers revealed that despite the conversion for marriage at an Arya Samaj temple, Rahman continued practicing Islam and named their son based on Muslim tradition. Police investigations further exposed allegations of deception and physical abuse against Rahman.
