A 54-year-old gynaecologist from Thane was defrauded of Rs 7 lakh by five individuals who threatened police action, accusing her of sending obscene messages and engaging in money laundering, an official reported on Thursday.

The accused contacted her between 8:30am and 12:15pm on Wednesday, coercing her to transfer Rs 7 lakh into two bank accounts. They communicated via voice and video calls, presenting false allegations.

After transferring the money, the gynaecologist realized she was scammed and approached the police. An investigation is ongoing, but no arrests have been made so far.
