In a fierce reaction to the violence following the Nabanna Abhijan rally, BJP national spokesperson C R Keshavan termed the aftermath as 'vicious, vindictive, and inhumane.' On Wednesday, Keshavan called for a 12-hour bandh in West Bengal and demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal.

'Brutal mayhem unleashed by Mamata government is vicious and vindictive and inhumane. The ruthless TMC government, yesterday, attempted to cold-bloodily crush and choke our youth students who are crusading for justice,' Keshavan stated. Visuals of the event revealed police brutality, including the use of water cannons, tear gas, and hockey sticks against student protestors at a railway station. Both women and senior citizens were reportedly manhandled by the police.

The violence erupted during the Nabanna Abhijan Rally, organized to protest the rape and murder of a junior doctor at R G Kar Medical Hospital and College. Keshavan supported the students, asserting they were within their rights to protest. He further accused the Kolkata police of suspicious involvement with the accused of the crime.

'The students are well within their right to protest against the government. Even the Supreme Court has said that the government should not disturb or disrupt any peaceful protest but what better can you expect from this Mamata Banerjee government,' Keshavan remarked. He expressed doubts about the connection between the accused, Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer and member of the Kolkata police force, and the local authorities.

BJP has called for a 12-hour bandh today, protesting the alleged atrocities against the protesters. Keshavan emphasized the need for immediate resignations from CM Mamata Banerjee and the Kolkata police commissioner due to the complete breakdown of law and order, as noted by the Supreme Court and High Court. 'People do not believe; they do not have confidence in CM. As long as she is the CM, justice will not be done,' he added.
