French President Emmanuel Macron is set to travel to Serbia later this month to bolster economic ties and discuss the advancements in Serbia's AI sector, according to an announcement from his office on Thursday. Serbia has emerged as a regional leader in AI research and will chair the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence – an initiative co-founded by Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau – in 2025.
During his visit from August 29 to August 30, Macron will engage in talks with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, as confirmed by the French presidency. 'The two leaders will also address crucial stakes in artificial intelligence, given Serbia's upcoming role in the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence and France hosting an AI Action Summit in 2025,' articulated the French presidency.
This visit follows a recent agreement between Serbia and the European Union, which grants the EU access to raw materials mined in Serbia.
