Four children were injured on Tuesday after a Russian munition struck a kiosk just metres away from a children's playground in Ukraine's southern Zaporizhzhia region, according to Ukrainian police.

The child victims, aged between 11 and 17, and an 18-year-old girl were among the injured. One of the children, who is 15, is in serious condition, while the others are stable, police confirmed in a statement.

The regional governor had earlier reported that the strike targeted a children's cafe. Images from the scene released by police show a burning kiosk next to a deserted playground. The Zaporizhzhia region, partially occupied by Russian forces since 2022, frequently experiences strikes from Moscow's military.
