Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has responded swiftly to a request from Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, releasing water from the Hirakud Dam to prevent potential flooding. This decision comes after several days of continuous rainfall and aims to protect over two dozen villages across both states.

Chief Minister Sai expressed deep gratitude to Majhi for his timely intervention. Past years have seen severe flooding in the submergence zones of the Hirakud Dam, affecting numerous villages. This unprecedented coordination between Chhattisgarh and Odisha governments represents a significant step towards improved disaster management.

Heavy rains have returned to Chhattisgarh, particularly in Dhamtari district, causing major water inflows into its four main dams—Gangrel, Madam Silli, Dudhwa, and Saudhur. To manage excess water, the district has opened several dam gates, releasing large amounts of water into the Mahanadi River and alerting coastal residents. This proactive approach aims to mitigate the impact of continuous rain and rising water levels, which previously led to severe disruptions and isolations in affected areas.
